Damn, dude, fucking Vanilla Ice, Snoop Dogg, and Kanye West? No wonder the stupid little Gen Z bastards voted for Trump.

[–] jack_of_sandwich@lemmy.sdf.org 41 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Vanilla Ice is relevant to Gen Z?

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

In the same way that Elvis is relevant to Gen X and David Bowie is relevant to Millennials.

[–] a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yea... There is no comparison between Elvis or Bowie vs. fucking Robert Van Winkle. XD

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

His era was before and he's still being talked about right now, I think that alone is proof.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He's an eternal VH1 "We ❤️ the 90s" one-hit-wonder, it's definitely not the same thing as the impact Elvis and Bowie made on music and culture more broadly.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -3 points 1 week ago

No, of course not, but relevant all the same.

He wasn't really relevant in his own Era. Had one single and then was a joke.

[–] hateisreality@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nah, he lives in Miami so he was cheap

Suge Knight took that shit in 92

I don't think there was any Gen-Z folks attending a Mar-a-Lago event unless they were staff. Surprisingly a lot of Gen Alpha folks because that's perfect breeding age for these Epstein fans.

No joke, the kids at my summer camp loved memorizing and performing ice ice baby.

Gen X*

Those are all Gen Xers, and the Gen X vote was 100x more influential for Trump in 2024 than Gen Z. I doubt much of Gen Z can name a single Snoop Dogg song, or knows who Vanilla Ice is at all.

uh. there s "smoke weed every day" followed by "GET NO SCOPED" and then a dorito turns into the Illuminati and the x files theme plays.

thats a snoop Dogg right

There's a reason Gen X is called the Forgotten Generation.

The biggest shift rightward of a youth democraphic ever recorded was during the 2024 election, the majority of Gen Z men voted for Trump and Trump also made large gains among Gen Z women even though the majority still voted for Harris.

If not for Gen Z, Trump would have gotten less votes than in 2020.

[–] Bleys@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Youth vote turnout is always low, and it still net favored Kamala. Conversely Gen X vote participation was significantly higher, as expected from an older generation, and it was significantly more favorable to Trump.

I’m not saying Gen Z’s right wing shift isn’t concerning, but it’s more a future problem. The 2024 election result is owned primarily by Gen X and Boomers (and Gen X more than Boomers, statistically).

Yeah, Uncle Dogg wasted no time being a shit bird this time around. Funny how he completely 180'd himself for this go around, and now just tells people to not worry about his life.

That tracks. 🙄
