I know this is a joke but all land vertebrates have roughly the same number of vertebrae. A long neck means longer vertebrae, not more.
Most often but not always, extinct forms like stem reptiles and all sometimes did really weird shit
Sure enough I just looked and giraffe vertebrae are 10" long. Weird.
