This is very true and even extends to there being multiple device categories for rather different use cases like the XReal type display glasses and industrial/military AR visors or passthrough-based stuff like the Apple Vision Pro currently.
I do find it a whole lot more interesting than phones where things are so set now that you don't see so much new stuff. When it comes to the everyday wearable smart glasses I would personally bet on something more like Meta's efforts being the most successful in the long run and they've certainly had the early successes. I'd love to see some more bulky devices that are more capable, sort of like Inmo Air 3 but while also fully embracing the aesthetic of being a crazy cyberpunk goggle thing and making it a fashion statement.
