That's us. Played the first game with my wife but while the artwork was and still is fantastic, I just couldn't get over how the characters were written. Rufus wasn't just goofy, he was an utterly unlikeable brat. And calling his love interest and the female protagonist "goal" and have her split up into her different personalities which consist of a baby, a jerk and another jerk was just too much. All persons in that game were horribly written imho and it really keeps me away from the sequels.

at least the other characters' attitude towards Rufus was (imo) justified, cause and effect and all that.

I did start the second game in the series, but was so put off by the tutorial - where Rufus tries to get some tool from a box, but fucks up so hard that he pushes a grandma's pet parrot through garbage disposal. It was played for comedy, sure, but I hated every moment of it.

Sure, main characters of point & click games tend to cause all kinds of mischief along the way, but Rufus' actions just feel ... wrong?
