While tea was a reflection of America’s Colonial heritage, consuming coffee was considered both a patriotic alternative and an act of outright defiance against British rule in the aftermath of the Boston Tea Party.

However, it was coffeehouses themselves—defined simply as places where men of all backgrounds and statuses could come together and converse about a wide range of topics over coffee, chocolate, tea and sometimes alcohol—that served as breeding grounds for political discussions and resistance against the British.

You'll be wanting to look for your nearest Starbucks.
