The increased cardiovascular risk from long-term keto diet is a no-brainer - fats and meat have both been shown to do that. IIRC research only shows weight loss for the first two weeks of the keto diet - presumably it's just quite difficult to stay in ketosis long-term.

The research for the paleo diet is a nothing burger - they found markers for possible cardiovascular disease but not any correlation. They are completely correct that the paleo diet is utterly ahistorical, but that doesn't play into healthiness at all. Avoiding legumes and increasing meat consumption are both bad ideas, though.

Not sure why the article is so keen on carbs - there's healthier stuff out there.
