Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

There is additional reporting from the Chicago Sun-Times and it's now unclear if a gun was fired or if ICE used a burner phone to call in a report of shots fired

I’m not sure what you expect Pritzker to do, exactly

Weird...

You don't have any idea what powers a Governor has?

I've noticed that a common thing in people which positive feelings toward neoliberal governors.

They control the police, they can arrest ICE for harassing citizens of their state against their wishes.

Like...

You know we fought a whole civil war over this, right?

The slave states wanted to send feds into free states to "deport" free Black people to the south to be slaves. Lincoln refused, and the South started a war they lost.

But since the oligarchs bought off both parties to push for a stronger fed now everyone is convinced that we have a strong fed that can do shit like this and states are powerless.

Even when it's literally an oligarch doing this shit.

If someone has a billion dollars they're not on the people's side. Which should be really easy to tell when someone has multiple billions, yet here we are

Interesting!!!! You are the singular person who has thought of this, huh? The group I’m in with mayor of my village, lawyers, and local politicians/political candidates for state have not ever thought about this or considered that as a possibility?! I’m surprised you’re not running for governor with these solutions…

Reality, friend, is different than that you THINK can and should happen. You are also ignoring that people DO. NOT. WANT. TO. START. A. WAR. The governor does not want to start a war. Having cops just go around arresting federal agents will escalate the situation to have Trump authorize martial law and actually enact the military. There isn’t a coalition of states to call upon to defend one another that I know of which this sort of provocation would require.

I appreciate you thinking you know what can happen, but that’s probably a good reason why you aren’t in charge. Your solution would hurt people. I’m actually involved in this shit and I see the discussions by people more in the know than you and me.

Interesting!!! You are the singular person who has thought of this, huh?

This is literally the same as when trump first hears something, before he forgets it he runs around telling people:

You'll never believe this, no one knows this....

Understanding that others know things we don't is a very very important step of development, that the vast majority of humans accomplish before 1st grade.

However, trump isnt alone.

Like you could have googled it yourself, you could have asked a question or for sources...

Instead you wanted everyone to know your ignorant opinion, because for some fucking reason you think ignorant opinions and verifiable facts are indistinguishable....

Because, again like trump, you can't tell the difference because you do not know the difference.

You don’t even live here and aren’t involved. You think you know the answer, but it’s not the answer people want because of repercussions.

Once again, I’m involved in groups that are resisting and coordinating. If your answer was seriously a good solution, it would have been done on any of the areas that ICE and CBP are active.

Feel free to respond, but I’m not responding anymore to someone that’s just spouting anger on a public forum and has no personal stake in things going on here.
