Oh that Xi Jinping president for life in a single-party system is such a haaard wooorker, truly the one worker allowed to own the rights and means to production.

Congratulations, you’re seeing what communism leads to EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. This is why people that aren’t smooth brains know that communism isn’t the utopia that leftists and 90% of Lemmy users think it is. It always ends in fascism, elites, and keeping everyone else held down on the bottom.

I don't think communism by bare definition leads there but certainly "dismantling capitalism" doesn't have a good track record.

[–] FreedomAdvocate@lemmy.net.au 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

When has communism not lead there though?

By bare definition a lot of things are communism, like public roads and libraries, public housing, public insulin production, etc.

But most people on here use the word to describe west v east divide and not what the word means.

Communism is an economic and political ideology. Individual publicly owned services are not "communism".

Communism is an economic and political ideology of "workers owning the rights and means to productions" as opposed to investors and upper management not specifically beholden to those workers, so yes publicly owned services and also cooperatives are "communism".

That's not to say that communism is in any way a solution to the problems of greed or corruption, though, because centralized authorities managing those public goods and services can be as bad or even worse than a monopoly.

My stance is plainly that communism or capitalism is a pointless discussion to even have on the topics of inequality, civil rights, or wealth concentration because it makes no difference compared to the discussion of democracy vs antidemocratic ideologies like fascism or tankies.

That's not all that communism is though. Capitalism has publicly owned services too.

Those are all features of communism (lack of civil rights though).

You can add things to the definitions of words all you like but it just puts you on the same level as those tankies screaming bloody murder about Capitalism.

I'm not the one doing that. You're the one trying to redefine communism. Capitalism doesn't say that there are no public services. A public service itself is not "communism".

By definitions of words capitalism and communism are not conflicting ideologies unless applied to the extreme.

The dictionaries tell us this:

Capitalism means private ownership of production of goods and services.

Communism means worker owned production of goods and services.

Obviously you could argue that all Capitalism is Laissez Faire and that all communism is some abominable mix of Marxism and somehow dictatorship, but then we have no terms to describe the 99% of industries that fall anywhere in the middle as anything except "market system."
