It could also have not been remastered but here we are. Why is this suddenly all on the players? WHY DOES IT NEED TO BE REMADE?

There are lots of reasons for a proper remake:

Better voice acting for most NPCs
Better diagetic sound (footsteps and doors are a particular area for improvement)
Better graphical presentation (dynamic lights, more polygons, improved assets and environment, less need for strange corridors to hide loading)
Nicer keybindings (no more right square bracket to use the sniper scope)
Improved combat AI
Improved world simulation (crowds, object interaction, hacking
A chance to adjust skills and augmentations that could be more useful in the original
