Yeah, the law was made for micro-USB and USB-C is a mess...

To make it worse, some companies decided the top voltage would be 18V, while others use 21V or anything in between... So it's not clear if the power brick you brought, that satisfies all the numbers from the device will actually be useful to charge the device.

It sure sucks that USB-C is such a mess. I was promised an end to messes with USB-C.

Well, we got the plug that is correct both ways...

That’s a fantastic start!

Love Apple or hate them they really did try to make it the universal standard way back in 2016.

They released their entire lineup of laptops as USB-C only and were mocked endlessly for it.

If only the IT world had jumped on board at that point we might not have the mess we have today.

They deserve to be mocked. Two ports is a joke when one is required for charging.

Two? Don’t spoil us! Look at this 12" MacBook from early 2015

It has a single USB-C port and literally NOTHING ELSE

That only works perfectly for 85%+ of Air buyers! :p

Edit: NOT me I got all the ports (phew) yay big MBP

[–] Nikls94@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I have an M1 air. One is occupied by the docking station: 2 monitors, mouse, keyboard, webcam, headphones, loudspeakers, microphone occupied and still 1 aux, 2 USB-C, 3 USB-A, MicroSD and a regular SD available;

The other Port on the MBA is occupied by the external SSD for maximum speed

Wow you’re definitely really deep into the 15% (I’m making that number up but there must be so few people outside of tech who even use a single external monitor?)

They buy the Mac, they open the Gmail and the Facebooks, they call it a day… I’m thinkin’

Wonder if I can get a realistic estimate on this kind of thing

[–] Nikls94@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

It is. I think 80% of people do exactly that, and maybe watch videos.

I only have that Mac because it was used and cheap and had a good battery time. It slowly became my main machine because it’s "good enough for everything"

I was excited about the one cable future back then.
