Comic Books

A place to discuss comic books of all types, from old to new, Big 2 to indie, and everything in between.

Floppies, graphic novels, compilations, omnibusses (omnibusi?) are all fair game.

There is only one rule:*

Comic Books is a no judgement zone.

You can talk all you want about how Rob Liefeld is trash, Bob Kane is an asshole, or Frank Miller and Dave Sim’s politics have made them toxic, that’s all good.

If, however, another user is LEGITIMATELY a fan of something you don’t like, that does NOT make them a lesser person. Attack the art for being bad, not the person for being a fan of bad art.

* I lied. There are TWO rules... No piracy. Cover shots? That's good. Interior pages, in moderation? Sure. Full books? Links to pirate sites? That's how we get things shut down. :(

I'm not saying it's been a problem, because it hasn't been.

Still better than the Mexican college apartment student breakfast I remember hearing about in the 90s, it was like ten guys in one apartment I'm thinking about, law students in Tijuana:

A Gansito Marinela (think of a chocolate-covered Twinkie and you're in the general ballpark), a Coke (Mexican sugar cane Coke, in a glass bottle), a cigarette, then let's go!

That apartment was utterly chaotic, a friend lived there for a while. Since most of the monthly budget was beer money, and there was drinking there basically every night, everyone hid whatever little food they bought under lock and key (mostly ramen), and anything left out in the open became "fair game" and a tragedy of the commons.

Same for toilet paper, if anybody put a new roll in, within an hour it was finished. It became a nasty vicious cycle in which nobody bought anything and everybody swarmed and devoured anything that popped up.
It got so bad, that instead of buying any more goddamned toilet paper for these goddamned bums, they all resorted to using the toilets of the 24/7 Big Boy coffee shop a couple of blocks away.

That's what happens when you get a bunch twenty-year olds raised by deeply catholic doting mothers, they were not only ignorant in how to live properly on their own, as a chaotic group under the same roof they seemed to be dysfunctionally unequipped to learn how to live properly on their own.
