In larger US states, yes. Typically north/northwest, like in Upstate New York.
I thought “Upstate” New York meant “not New York City”
Depends on where you are when you say it. To anyone in NYC, that's probably true. But don't say you're in upstate NY if you're in western NY.
Would that be Leftstate NY then? Or is there only a single cardinal direction within a state?
There is only really "Upstate", New York, and "Long guy land".
I thought it was Lone Guy Land
