Iirc PH was first with the thumbnail pop up when hovering over the timeline. They also had the "waveform" thing of where users watched the most. Sure a video player is just a video player. But all the extra features like changing quality, playback speed, buffering tech, subtitles, and so much more really add up to a better experience.
