Very British to do something like that. BBC did the same thing with RATM when they asked them not to do the "fuck you I won't do what you tell me" part, and then they did it anyway.

they could have complied by changing the fuck to other (hopefully worse) profanities.

Yeah that'd work (I'm not very creative, just the first one I thought of that sounded lyrically right)
Just need to remove the "you" to match the syllable count.
