Welcome to /c/tumblr, a place for all your tumblr screenshots and news.

Our Rules:

  1. Keep it civil. We're all people here. Be respectful to one another.

  2. No sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia or any other flavor of bigotry. I should not need to explain this one.

  3. Must be tumblr related. This one is kind of a given.

  4. Try not to repost anything posted within the past month. Beyond that, go for it. Not everyone is on every site all the time.

  5. No unnecessary negativity. Just because you don't like a thing doesn't mean that you need to spend the entire comment section complaining about said thing. Just downvote and move on.

I think the proper word is pay-to-win.

Free-to-play is similar but not inherently pay-to-win.

I think they were aiming at "Freemium", as in nominally "free" except where the entire game is designed around getting you to spend money. In such a style, the game itself is an advertisement.

Whereas P2W might not be that way, and only unlock something - like it's free up the last world when all of a sudden you have to pay to finish it off.

Let's meet halfway and call it all a scam?

I mean... P2W can be a scam, as too can P2P, and ofc most games these days are scams, but they do not have to be.

But Freemium yes, that one already implies scam just with that phrase, absolutely. "There's no such thing as a free lunch"!
