said Sahakyan. "I think it will resolve a lot of issues because we'll know exactly who's in here for what reasons, even though I miss [my wife] dearly. I think we could have a faster process [where they determine] she's not a radical, or tied to the crazies, let her out."

He's rationalizing what's happening. They are never letting her out. They are going to take her out of the country and she will never be coming back to the USA again. I wonder if that is what it will take for him to change his opinion.

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I'm not a psychologist but I suspect there's something amiss here.

Like a lot of these people if he steps back from his loyalty to Trump, he's kind of admitting that he's partially responsible for what's happened.

Clinging to this shaky narrative of how this is actually a good thing allows him to offload the guilt.

I think this might be "delusional" in the clinical sense.

Over time the belief becomes more entrenched. Something like muscle memory but a thought pattern. It will then become the basis for even nuttier thoughts.

It's sad for him, it's sadder for her, it's even sadder for their kids who might me next. It's just shit all the way down.

[–] RawrGuthlaf@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I do see a trend with the conservative base here where getting them to admit they are wrong about ANYTHING is like a personal attack and they simply are not equipped with the emotional prowess and maturity needed to learn from it.

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 8 hours ago

Thats true, but i think this guy is kinda next level.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

Yeah, their statement made that crystal clear. They're calling her a burglar.

[–] three_trains_in_a_trenchcoat@piefed.social 81 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

I think you're right. He's been conditioned to keep the faith and look past the cult's obvious failure to keep its promise of protecting him and his; if he only keeps the faith, everything will surely come right. He still believes that surely dear leader would never hurt him. I think his wife getting flown out to Serbia without a trial miiiight just be the wakeup call.

[–] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 33 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Kinda sounds like religions...don't question, just believe.

[–] three_trains_in_a_trenchcoat@piefed.social 39 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

At this point, I think it's pretty safe to call MAGA a religion, specifically an offshot of American Evangelism. I don't think you can call its faithful Christians anymore, because while they're happy to borrow all the trappings and symbols of Christianity, every place where Christ and Trump conflict, Trump wins, including who gets to be Godhead. I'm really not exaggerating, I think a lot of people have walked into an entirely new faith without yet realizing it. If you're looking for a modern anti-christ, it's hard to do better than Trump.

The followers of the antichrist will wear the mark of the beast on their foreheads

The antichrist will appear to be mortally wounded but miraculously survive

The antichrist is one who is arrogant and boastful, loves making public threats, and is obsessed with winning and being viewed as a conqueror

The antichrist will be someone who somehow sneaks into power rather than being properly handed it, specifically by colluding with a few powerful people because he does not have the majority on his side

Someone who will develop a cult of personality, and turn otherwise good people away from what they previously knew as righteous

Someone who’s rise to power and imperviousness to being stopped will serve as justification of his righteousness to those who have been tricked

Someone who “will distribute among his followers the plunder and wealth of the rich—something his predecessors had never done”(Daniel 11:24). Obviously were reading “followers” as his wealthiest friends that prop up his position

He will “try to change the set times and the laws”, “cause deceit to prosper”, and “will greatly honor those who acknowledge him. He will make them rulers over many people and will sell them land at a price.”

He will wage war on “the kingdom of the south” and target its people.

He will do everything that he does in service to himself and to the detriment of all those who are suffering:

There will be a leader over the land who will not help the ones who are dying.

He will not go looking for the young who got lost, or care for the children.

He won’t help the ones who are sick or broken, or even give nourishment to the hungry ones who are still healthy.” - Zechariah 11:16-17

He will be friends with a leader in Israel and “will do as he pleases; no one will be able to stand against him. He will establish himself in the Beautiful Land, and will have the power to destroy it. He will determine to come with the might of his entire kingdom, and make an alliance… then, he will turn his attention to the coastlands.” - (Daniel 11:16-18)

Literally the only aspect of Trump that doesnt match the biblical description of the antichrist is that the biblical antichrist is ultimately stopped by the courts. And we all know the supreme court isnt doing shit about this one…

[–] Goodmorningsunshine@lemmy.world 9 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

the biblical antichrist is ultimately stopped by the courts.

Really? I'm interested in more about this. I'm not religious, but these parallels have always interested me, and I'd like to read more about this courts bit.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I was raised evangelical but am now thoroughly deconstructed. There’s some interesting things here, but keep in mind that all “prophesy” is designed to be interpretive.

While a lot of the claims of the person above do have scriptural origins, there are a few problems. What I am about to provide is done so for academic purposes, not religious or ideological ones. I do not believe in or endorse religious scripture, but I am bothered by how casually and rampantly it is misrepresented for religious or political gain, as if it isn’t readily available to read in it’s original languages and contexts.

  1. “Antichrist” is a movement/ideology/attitude, not a single person. It literally implies opposition to the teachings of Christ. It’s easy to point out how antichrist attitudes are prolific in this day and age. The very people who claim to carry Jesus legacy are the ones overwhelmingly acting in stark contrast to his commands.
  2. A lot of what gets attributes to “the antichrist” is actually one of several other end-times characters, usually “The Beast” or “The False Prophet.” Many of the scriptures referenced above are about The Beast.
  3. The Beast of Revelation is not defeated by courts, but by Jesus himself during a battle (Rev 19).
[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

It could be in a court if jesus beats him in a tennis match. I haven't read that bit so I don't know what's actually supposed to happen.

I don't remember biblical antichrist being stopped by courts, I seem to remember that he ultimately gets yeeted into hell.

[–] modifier@lemmy.ca 7 points 19 hours ago

This is 100% correct. Evangelicals Christianity, never a beacon of rationality or clarity of doctrine, has now been fully captured by MAGA. There is no functional difference between Christian Nationalism and Evangelical American Christianity.

I worry this is only the beginning. I genuinely believe that Evangelicals will also embrace AI and incorporate it into their beliefs somehow. I also believe Trump will be divinized before his term is up - at least within Evangelical Christian Nationalism.

[–] SaltySalamander@fedia.io 4 points 15 hours ago

Cult, religion, two sides of the same fucking coin.

[–] Buske@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

With all the rapes happening at the ICE Camps, She may end up pregnant on the inbetween or dead honestly.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 6 points 16 hours ago

Gotta double down on the delusions or face the unimaginable guilt.

[–] RedSeries@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

I wonder if that is what it will take for him to change his opinion.

Probably something that alters his brain's physical structure.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

It will either change his opinion or his marital status

[–] Buske@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

Majority of them, do not give a shit, They will just find someone new.
