Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

King of the Hill voice actor Jonathan Joss has died aged 59 after a shooting in Texas, police have confirmed.

Joss was the voice of John Redcorn for seasons two through 13 of the popular animated series. He had reportedly recorded bits for the show’s reboot, which recently began production for Hulu and is slated to premiere in August.

The actor was reportedly shot multiple times over the weekend after a disagreement with a neighbor, according to TMZ. San Antonio police responded to a home after reports of shots fired and found Joss near the road with gunshot wounds, according to Variety.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

If I lived in America and was LGBTQ I'd be buying a gun right now, and this comes from someone who has always been anti-gun

If i lived in america i'd sell my gun to get out of that shithole as soon as possible.

Almost everyone I know is broke. No country takes broke people. I could leave any day if I'm only willing to abandon everyone who cares about me

[–] Red_October@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago (1 children)

You overestimate how much guns cost here. You're not even renting a U-Haul with that.

[–] Alaik@lemmy.zip 3 points 9 months ago

I mean I agree with the first part of your statement. He is greatly overestimating the cost of a gun. But a decent piece will cost you 300-500 bucks. Uhauls are 70 bucks a day?

This is what my LGBTQ neighbors are actually doing.

I'm staying, not because I want to - but because I have a lot of friends and family who can't afford to, and if push comes to shove, my savings are going towards helping them get out too.

A gun doesn't save you if you don't know they have one until they shoot first.

At this point it's safe to assume every homophobe is armed and react accordingly.

[–] Rebecca_Corndogs@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

The homophobe was coming right for us. I feared for my life. It was self defense.

[–] Brickhead92@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

But then they'll just make defending yourself against armed violent and threatening homophobes a hate crime.

[–] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Frankly I don't think it would matter at that point since they'll hate us for no reason no matter how well we behave. Altho, I may or may not have been a little too angry when I made that comment, because after all guns aren't the only means of defense and I don't think I want people to have the guilt of killing someone over them, even if it was in self-defense.

[–] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago

That's what I'm telling all my LGBTQ friends in the US who are not at risk of suicide. You can't afford to be neutral in an arms race, especially when the enforcers of possible gun bans are all buddies with the people that shouldn't have guns.
