The reason most games run on Linux Of course wine started it ;)

Agree, wine started but without support from steam ti make proton creating game specific fixes and getting some anticheats to work on linux it would have taken quite a bit longer time to get to this point without steam creating proton.

Valve also contribute heavily upstream into the Wine project, but there are some fixes which "couldn't" be upstreamed until v10. As well, the most recent Linux kernel has added some changes which specifically help with Wine and gaming.
