I dunno, if an actual cure existed that made me normal and made people want to spend time around me, I'd probably go for it.

problem being an "actual cure" does not now and likely will never exist

what i want is an adderral equivalent for autism, let me pop a pill in the morning to take the edge off the neurodivergence and then toward the evening i can feel properly like myself again and rawdog 15 public transport videos in a row

Autism isn't a sickness though. It is a core part of your personality. You can't just not be Autistic.

ADHD on the other hand is tied to chemical imbalances in the brain so medications can help.

I don't think you know what autism is. It's not a personality trait. It's a developmental disorder. Like ADHD or other mental health disorders it can effect personality traits, but it's not your personality as much as social media wants you to think it is.

It is a core part of me and lots of other people. We don't need a "cure" and the rhetoric around "curing" Autism is very dangerous.

You can cure a sickness. Autism is not a sickness.

It may not be a sickness, but if there was a way to help those in the autism community that struggle with severe cases to live fuller, happier lives wouldn't that be a cause worth perusing? Granted this isn't talking about a cure, but some kind of treatment or aid would be a good thing, right?

The problem is that a lot of the Autism research is not done in good faith. It is all about neurotypicals trying to "fix" us

that's a very broad statement that i don't think is really accurate, there's a lot of overlap and the same symptoms can present for different underlying reasons.

the more troublesome aspects of autism are not really inherent personality traits, my inability to ignore sounds isn't a part of my identity, and that's the kind of thing i want to just turn off for most of the working day. It can be useful, i'll find important details blitheringly obvious while everyone else has no clue they exist at all, but most of the time in modern society it's just exhausting to live with.

like, when i'm able to perform the coping strategies i've developed throughout my life i don't really behave very autistically as such, instead i'm just a slightly weird guy who goes barefoot.
But if i'm prevented from using the coping strategies and forced to experience unpleasant things that stress me out, i start behaving more and more traditionally autistic as the stress grows.

the autistic traits that are part of my identity is stuff like the things i find interesting, being unable to turn off my empathy, my emotions working a bit differently than they do for other people, etc.. That's the stuff i wouldn't want to turn off.

What would a cure actually do?

There isn't a "cure" in the traditional sense as Autism is a core part of your personally. You would basically need to do a brain swap which would mean you would be an entirely different person.
