For whom, though?

The US has always been cruel to minority groups; the only real difference is “middle class” white people are now being targeted too.

Native peoples, black Americans, and anyone not straight or who dared speak their mind have always been targeted with violence.

Does it need to change? Yes. But let’s not fool ourselves into thinking we ever truly had a “good old days.” Nostalgia is a dangerous poison.

I also realize now after typing this rant that may be the point of the meme lol sorry, I’ll keep the rest intact though.

No you were right to call me out.

You make some fair points but it seems like you are saying things can't possibly get worse for people who are not young white cishet protestant men without disabilities.

The thing is however, that it can always get worse. And it just did.

Legal discrimination is back at the federal level. The ACLU and other rights advocates are going to have a much harder time trying to represent anyone who is now in a scapegoated demographic. We are now in an post human rights America where a "pure" national identity is taking shape. The Executive Order is intended to disarm legal resistance by remove the few institutional tools we have to fight discrimination.

This must be met with resistance.

I think his point is that the permissible level of bigotry and violence against minority groups has helped paved the way for the increase of fascism in America, which has now begun to turn it's cross hairs on more and more citizens that in the past wouldn't be directly affected.

Solidarity for all people is necessary to oppose fascism. Appeasement by throwing minority groups under the bus has only ever strengthened fascism. The latter has been the choice of most if not all administrations in America.

I agree with their points.

I just think that legalized discrimination is something that shouldn't be brushed off as the same old shit. This is in fact very new unprecedented shit.

America has deported american citizens multiple times before, in particular Mexican Americans and Asian Americans. The legalized discrimination against black Americans has been with us since reconstruction was sabatoged by the white supremacists in our local and federal administrations. It's unprecedented for white Americans, yeah. Not so much for those who have been historically oppressed in America.

This is certainly a new wave of fascism in America, it's even affecting white Americans who historically have not been in the crosshairs, in particular for protesting and voicing the opposition to America and Israel's genocide of Palestine. The crosshairs of fascism never ends with minority groups, it inevitability grows and attacks people who initially thought they were safe as long as they didn't fight for those who were the initial target. The US has reached that tipping point, if we aren't already past it.
