2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. As a Canadian the developments that are happening right now make me highly opposed to the gun bans that have been happening. Almost all semi-automatic rifles are banned and it isn't doing a dent to the crime. Licensed Canadian gun owners were never a problem. Canada never had a gun problem even when there was next to no gun control here.
We need community defense and a ready made resistance force, like the home guard in Britain during ww2.
IMO, guns are not the cause of violence. After WW2, Americans returning from war weren't shooting up schools, despite having easy access to firepower. It takes a broken mind to murder people without cause.
My hypothesis is that society has been seriously corroded by capitalism, since it steals time and opportunity from people in many different ways. Parents not spending time with their children, appropriately sized homes for families being foreclosed, not being able to afford schooling, and so forth. All of these things are a poison that have built up over time.
I am of the opinion that politicians focus on fighting guns, since those are the final defense against malicious governance. Without them, situations like Blair Mountain couldn't happen, where miners fought the corporations that raped their wives and daughters as a form of debt repayment.
Behind the Bastards, the 2nd Civil War you never heard about
I am a gun owner since I am 16 years old. My parents and grandparents were before me. Everyone I know where I live owns at least one gun. Their parents and grandparents as well. Many even owned semi autos as restricted ownership so they could shoot at the range with their friends. Many never turned in their guns thankfully. They are hidden in attics and closets and under floorboards not in the homes of the purchasers and our own homegrown political fascists will never get them. We're dumb rednecks though. Crazy people.
My kids are all under 12. They all know how to shoot and where the keys to the gun cabinet and ammo box are. One of the ten year olds owns their own .22 cal and hunts with me and grandpa. We trust them to make good decisions because we parent them, trust them and teach them and in return, they do.
Our relationship with guns in Canada is very different to that of our southern neighbors and I agree with you completely. There are people who should not own guns and we need to do our best to ensure that they are not able to get them. But through our complete history at no time has it been warranted to take all the guns away from our citizens or even any of the guns. When government begins that ( hint: it's right now) we need to do our best to not allow it to occur.
Our government plays a game of city politics with guns. They know urban Canadians have been somewhat indoctrinated by American culture and media to be quite against gun ownership and to a certain extent rightfully so. However we need to not compare ourselves to another nation and follow their lead to obtain political points. We have to hold our representatives to a much higher morality than we do at present. They need to represent the people not play scare politics for votes.
Criminals do not register guns. They do not buy them legally. Enforcing bans on citizens for no reason is just a political ploy that we seriously need to confront louder. Some of us have been screaming this and being told were just dumb rednecks. Look at where our country is now and tell me I'm wrong.
