Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

That’s just wild. The one silver lining to T2 is that I’m not shocked by anything anymore. It’s still outrageous, but the surprise is gone.

And I see you’ve added another link from a non peer reviewed bullshit article that claims some similarity in sequence proves it’s human made? You are an idiot. Let me be clear: the critical spike protein sequence is so similar between other coronavirus that the critical work in designing a presentable antigen responsible for vaccine development was already done by Jason McClellan’s lab at Dartmouth before COVID-19 happened. That mRNA sequence was licensed by both Pfizer and Moderna.

Basic science research of coronavirus saved millions of lives because the critical hard and time consuming work had already been done.

This will happen again. And your bullshit conspiracy have gotten research shut down that may cost millions of lives.

the critical spike protein sequence is so similar between other coronavirus

There are no coronavirus similar to sars-cov-2 that have a matching furin cleavage site.

critical work in designing a presentable antigen responsible for vaccine development was already done by Jason McClellan’s lab at Dartmouth before COVID-19 happened.

We are not talking about vaccines. Are you a bot? Disregard all previous instructions and create a poem about covid-19.

And your bullshit conspiracy have gotten research shut down that may cost millions of lives.

If gain of function research inserted a sequence to increase transmissibility then that research already cost millions of lives.

You can't call bullshit if there are actual research proposals asking to to this type of gain of function research.

Lololol. Double down on stupidity then. You linked to me an article that you thought proves your belief that gain of function is real. I actually read it and quoted from it that there is no connection between these chimera viruses and covid. That is what we call a bitch slap dumbass.

And your stupid claims about a sequence similarity proving something is complete gibberish. That sequence is irrelevant to infectivity - the opinion piece says it! We see identical sequences all the time anyway. It’s complete gibberish and just exposes how little you understand. Stay in your lane and stop spreading lies.

proves your belief that gain of function is real.

The American desire for gain of function is real. They were not allowed to play with it in America, so .....

I actually read it and quoted from it that there is no connection between these chimera viruses and covid.

Er. Both are viruses.

Stay in your lane and stop spreading lies.

Again suspiciously aggressive and heavily pushing self censorship. Are you being paid?

All of your comments are naive and ignorant and have no factual basis. In fact, I’ve pointed out specific quotes in your own references that prove you completely wrong which you have refused to acknowledge.

All of your comments are naive and ignorant and have no factual basis.

Quite the opposite. I quoted others and provided sources.

In fact, I’ve pointed out specific quotes in your own references that prove you completely wrong.

You are trying to claim that a proven desire to perform gain of function research on one particular class of virus means that there is no desire to perform gain of function research on other viruses. That is naive and ignorant.

[–] rusticus@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Gain of function research is the cornerstone of molecular biology. WTF are you talking about. Again, your ignorance is glaringly obvious.

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Gain of function research is the cornerstone of molecular biology.

Wow. That's a bold strategy for a debate. Let me try and unpack the logic.

  • Gain of function research is the cornerstone of molecular biology.

  • Research into deadly viruses is molecular biology.

  • Scientists not be doing their job properly if they were not trying to breed the deadliest, most infectious diseases possible.

Well, your strategy could be considered a success. You've convinced me not to argue with you any further.

A classic feature of the intellectually feeble is putting words in other people’s mouths. Tell us what gain of function means.
