Perhaps it’s not actually a trend, but I feel like I’m seeing tons of YouTubers holding microphones that should clearly be mounted on a stand or at least on a desk - and it drives me crazy. It’s not like holding it makes it sound better than mounting it! Just invest in a mic stand!
That's apparently a new style of presentation oftentimes done purposefully to give a more 'real' or 'authentic' view of the presenter due to appearing as a less polished production.
Thank you for this video! Definitely going to give it a watch.
I try not to let my distaste for microphone holding turn me off of every new (to me) YouTuber I discover that does it but it definitely hangs around in the back of my head when I watch them.
The only one who doesn’t bother me is Josh Strife Hayes who puts it in a mug which I think seems at least mildly subversive
I hate it when they use a lavalier mic and hold it on their hand or tape it to the front of their shirt, leaving the wire hanging...
They're supposed to be made to be invisible or not noticeable, that's the whole point! Either clip it on your shirt's neck, or use a regular mic goddamit!
(Looking at you, Climate Town)
Beats people who have the mic nowhere near their face. 4K video! Sounds like a bathroom.
