Top be fair it is hardware that is 8 years newer than the first switch.

... I'm struggling to understand what you mean by "wider". As in the physical size? It is slightly larger, but even so why is that a factor?

Yup sorry, what I meant was "thicker"

To fit in larger components, for exemple a bigger heatsink or fan
