Discussion of all aspects of climbing from indoor bouldering to high altitude mountaineering.

Thinking of dabbling into trad, looking to build out a rack on an as-needed basis.

Climbing here mostly in Southern Ontario, so limestone blocks along the Niagara escarpment.

Some light research suggests I should:

  • favour passive pro over cams (slimestone, etc.)
  • consider offset nuts

... then the topics seem to always drift into a discussion about the merits of tricams lol

Looking at the dragons in size 2-4 to start.

Am I on the right track?

Also I'm legit afraid of using the #nuts or #rack tags.

I think the size of the Lemmy climbing community is still too small for you to find any Southern Ontarian trad climbers (I would be happy to be proved wrong). I think your best bet is to find some local trad climbers at the gym and get some tips from them.

I’m not that into trad climbing myself, and not in limestone, so unfortunately can’t give you any good recs.

@[email protected] thanks! I did get some helpful responses outside of Lemmy (which didn't federate in, oddly). I wasn't expecting too much discussion, compared to other placed (Mountain Project, Ontario climbing forum, etc.) but I wanted to submit it to the Lemmy community anyway just to see!

Absolutely! I think it’s great to generate some activity here either way. And you never know when someone will respond.
