Imamoglu, who is President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s main political rival, accused the US and Europe of prioritizing geopolitical interests over democratic values.

“Their silence is deafening,” Imamoglu wrote of world governments. “Washington merely expressed ‘concerns regarding recent arrests and protests’ in Turkey. With few exceptions, European leaders have failed to offer a strong response.”

As a European voter. Our governments should absolutely speak and act about it. It is plain and simple - a dictator killing off opposition. Türkiye does not even hold that kind of power over Europe. Sanctions now?!

Most European leaders are deathly afraid of immigrants, as that's the main fuel to the fire of alt right.

And Turkey is a ever so slightly autocratic doorstop, holding back hundreds of thousands of immigrants in a way that's not entirely legal in Europe.

So they are all ignoring Erdogansb fucking around because he's holding back the déluge they fear.

I think there’s something about Turkey staving off a lot of immigration before it reaches Europe. I think Erdogan has made threats about this before.

A bigger flow of immigration is probably seen as a challenge by European leaders.
