Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

If you listen, you hear her quite understandably surprised reaction with a scream, and then she asks to call the police, only to be told “we’re the police.” None of them are in uniforms. Most of them are masked.

Frightening.

If Americans were just 1% as tough as they pretend to be on the internet, Trump would have been overthrown by now.

Alas.

There's no useful discussion to be had from you. You're just looking for a fight.

I'm tired of reddit refugees coming here and bringing that attitude.

I'm an American who has never had that bravado, has always voted against this bullshit, and even online we get spat upon when we are the ones who will somehow have to overcome the largest military on the planet.

Fucking hell, try being, I dunno, useful or supportive. If we fail here, you'll face the consequences. That's the sad reality.

I'm not shouting in from the outside. I'm in the US myself. The student who got grabbed off the street? She didn't write half the shit I did. How's that for having a stake?

If I made you mad I've already been helpful. You will not face the largest military on the planet on account of that military comprised by your own countrymen. Other nations such as Canadians or Europeans will not be as lucky. I would also love to be "more supportive" for direct action, if you know where to start let me know because I don't.

Edit: Irrelevant to any of this, but I'm not a R*ddit refugee since I've been permabanned there more than a decade ago. I'm a /pol/ refugee. They banned me there as well, though nothing a DNS change couldn't fix. Just as well, 4Chan is even more of a fed honeypot than Plebbit.

Okay, fair. But we need to be allies in this. I don't know where to start either but I want us to pull out of it somehow.

Help build us up, please, and not tear us down. I apologize for discounting you. We can only move forward if we unify, and the left is goddamned bad at that.

[–] PurpleSkull@lemm.ee 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

No apology needed, I'm a dick. Just wish more people would be seething with rage about all of this as I am. Feels like the left is too placid, too timid, too laissez-faire with the great gift hard won with blood and iron by their forefathers.

[–] Pronell@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

I'm seething, but that isn't all that useful, I need to find a more productive way to be.

Hopefully we will get there. But we have to build before we can break down.

If that victory is won, and I do believe it can be, then we can rebuild better than before.

With climate change and everything else we face, can we realistically pull through? Fuck if I know, but this is literally the fight of our lives and futures. We have to unite, no matter how angry we are at various leftist factions.

Me? I assumed women would unify for their right to bodily autonomy. Since they didn't I don't dismiss them but hope to bring them into the fold, because they're needed and do not want to live as Handmaids, for one example.

My goodness, it keeps going!!

Seriously. Americans spent the last 50 years pretending to be the toughest most tyranny proof people in the world, and look at them. Exactly as pathetic as expected. Ffs.
