Shroud is a really good piece of hard sci-fi that explores first contact with an alien intelligence. It has creative world building, good characters, and a creative take on alien life.

Quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Although I bought the original children of time when it came out, so probably better to say has developed into one of my favorite authors haha.

Agreed! Children of Time was wonderful, the whole Final Architecture series was fantastic, and I adore Cage of Souls even if it's a bit of a hot mess.

Last few years his output has been practically Sanderson-like, too, he's building an impressing body of work.
