in my whole (last I checked) 8 months on Lemmy I've never had to move instances because of downtime, even temporarily 🤷‍♀️

My instance had a few hiccups after it was started, but they were resolved quickly enough.

But it's disingenuous to pretend that an instance going down is something the fediverse is immune to. If we had account portability or something similar, then maybe.
