Export your stuff and import it into your other account every so often, i cross export and import to all my accounts so I don't have to remember which account i saved what post
That doesn't help with notifications and messages.
No it doesn't, but since the instance i was on before died it's something I lost but at least I had the rest of my stuff
Meh, you can always browse another instance or pick a new instance to register at as a backup.
Some apps have "guest accounts" that you can use to lurk while upgrade downtime on your instance
in my whole (last I checked) 8 months on Lemmy I've never had to move instances because of downtime, even temporarily 🤷♀️
My instance had a few hiccups after it was started, but they were resolved quickly enough.
But it's disingenuous to pretend that an instance going down is something the fediverse is immune to. If we had account portability or something similar, then maybe.
