The Library of Things offers Londoners the chance to get their hands on the random tools, gadgets, and household items they need, in a far more sustainable way than buying them brand new. From camping gear and carpet cleaners to party supplies and pressure washers; the Library of Things is packed full with handy items to borrow at affordable prices. And with 19 libraries now scattered across the city; it’s never been more convenient to borrow rather than buy.

They have them in the US too, at regular libraries. Obviously not such a wide selection.

My public library in a small town in canada has stuff like this, it's pretty awesome. They also have stuff like crafting kits with the tools you need to test out a hobby without buying all the way in

Last year I checked out books, switch games, a DVD drive, cake pans, puppets, a reciprocating saw, and while this is more like reserving for use, a laser cutter. Can't believe there's people that actually want to shut down libraries.

I lived in Oakland for a while and they had an awesome tool library. Lawnmowers and hedge trimmers, jackhammers, impact drills and saws, dolleys for when you move, automotive tools. It was awesome.
