If that's the case, why apply the tarrifs to individual purchases online?
Shipping companies tend to take more than one item
As it was said just bellow, it’s due to shipping companies.
As regular citizens, we can « import » up to 800$ without paying tariffs. However, let’s say company A imports items from the US. They will do so with numbers over 800$, probably in the thousands or millions. This means it’s over the limit of obligatory signaling to the border agents and then they pay tariffs on that amount.
It’s kinda that process.
