Does it not make sense to at least try to recover it to not expose it though or are they just abandoning it entirely and maybe leave it booby trapped if someone follows the cable?

Shoot n scoot, but also with a common exit for the cable id imagine they control one end and can at the least attempt to retract OR disconnect and get out

Was just thinking on this a bit more and if they're mobile, they could also lay 100-200m or more of optics in the ground all covered by brush before their spot. Wrap it around a fallen tree/branch for stress relief, cover the rest which would be easy, and you get a pretty substantial barrier if it's traced too quickly.

I mean I've seen pictures of Ukrainians setting up punji sticks in abandoned trenches so I'm guessing old dugouts would be trapped as well.
