VR headsets remind me a lot of all the feature phone e-waste (leminal.space)

Between Microsoft killing Windows Mixed Reality in November 2026, the lack of replacement parts for things like the Rift S's cable and PSVR 2 replacement controllers, and Meta's quick discontinuation of the Quest Pro and pushing software updates that cause issues with legacy headsets it feels like most headsets are destined to quickly become paperweights.

The situation reminds me a lot of feature phones with their proprietary connectors, how useless they are without a cellular network, and the lack of a strong modding community.

Things do seem to be getting better, I haven't heard a lot of complaints about the Valve Index, but it's a bit disappointing to see so many posts and comments talking about how much potential different headsets had.

Honestly all I want is wide FOV, OLED, wireless and FBT for VRC and I'd drop 1k on it easy. Idk if it's cringe or w/e I don't even play VR more than like twice a year but the immersion would make it worth it alone for me. I just wanna hang out at virtual raves with relics or ancient or other adult internet weirdos.

Quest 2 is ok for PCVR-only, especially MSFS, AC, DR2.0, B&S with mods, H3VR and Pistol Whip and playing flatscreen games in 3D with reshade via VD and some good desktop headphones, I had a blast playing PS4 spider man that way and the Kid Amnesia Exhibition especially, the latter literally got me out of a months long rut emotionally.

All I really want is something with a decent resolution that I can use to simulate a multiple screen office setup.

Something that doesn't rely on horrible finicky software.

That's a ways away at any affordable price sadly.
