I had one done some time ago, and while it wasn't particularly painful, the visceral reaction I had to feeling my sack cut open definitely left some scars on my psyche.

I cannot imagine doing one on myself just for shits and giggles.

The weirdest bit was chatting with the doctor about video games and anime during the procedure. The incision itself was maybe 5-10mm.
