Those roads are probably for police and military so they can arrive quickly in case of invasion or citizens becoming uppity.
Sure, but that thing is 4 lanes in either direction. That's a lot of asphalt for a whole bunch of nothing.

Also why the US highway system was built, btw. The president who championed it, Eisenhower, was the commander of US allied forces during WW2. While there were other benefits, his goal was to be able to quickly transport troops in the event of a Soviet invasion.
Which is a fucking dumb idea seeing how shitty the US rail system is.
Oops looks like no more movement for the forseeable future until we can get engineers to fill the crater and rebuild the track to spec. If you mess up repairs, the whole train can derail and back to square 1!
