Yeah, it'd be interesting for there to be an exit survey. I'm always interested why people leave, especially those like Ilandar.
Thanks for the reply Ilandar, i had a whole spiel with suggestions i had typed, but you didn't ask for advice or an essay reply. You told me your reasons, because i asked and i respect that.
You have given me an idea that i'm going to share on the AZ Meta though. Cheers for that.
Also, i know people don't like this question, but i'm always curious, if your happy to share, whats the story behind the name?
Ah, wow thats a cooler story than i'd reckoned for. Might have to check out that movie as well.
Fwiw I noticed pretty quickly. Pretty sure within a few hours of when you left. I was going to see if anyone knew if you were okay, but I always had the impression you didn't really like me, so it didn't feel like my place to ask. Glad you're doing what you think is best though. I hope you find somewhere with the more diverse set of viewpoints you're after.
It's more typical for people to "ghost". I don't think in those case there is any particular decision, they just stop checking in.
You'll likely find the most common reason people leave is they've shared too much of themselves and someone either recognises them or they worry someone will. Some people start new user accounts and keep going. Some people will switch to a different instance. We aren't a particularly attractive instance if you want to engage with a lot of lemmy.world communities, for instance. There's a lag for when you'll see their content until they upgrade their Lemmy version.
Yeah, that lags a killer, although i've noticed its better than it used to be. But its still days.
