“Donald, if you’re watching, we’ll put your name on it. You get to be the American president who finally guaranteed health care for every single American.”

Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senator-elect from Michigan who ran on a progressive platform with Medicare for All at its center, said Friday that he doesn’t care what the policy is called so long as it passes, even during Donald Trump’s lame duck term, which will begin in January.

Appearing on Zeteo with editor-in-chief Mehdi Hasan, El-Sayed was asked if he agreed with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who a night earlier pronounced that he wasn’t so sure that if Democratic majorities in the US House and Senate passed a Medicare for All Bill that Trump wouldn’t sign it.

“If he wants to pass Trumpcare-for-All, I’m ok with it. He seems to like to put his name on things,” said El-Sayed.

His pragmatism is stunning and brave and very welcome! This is how you get shit done, fuck the go-high-when-they-go-low bullcrap

If we need their participation because they hold the Presidential fucking Veto and remain influential among a still way too high demographic that its better or free to have buy-in with , you work with them to help them come around to what you need to get done, especially when they can be bought so cheaply that all it takes is temporarily stamping their name on it or holding up on the raining down of criminal investigations and legal reckoning to ensure they let thru and that they would just pardon themselves from immediately anyhow.

Those largely performative things can wait, universal health care and possibly other goodies like banning legislative voter map fraud/disenfranchisement cant wait, shit needs to change and change soon. Remember: Trump isnt actually a "conservative", he was a registered Democrat for most of his life and he's shown he cares far more about flashy branding and photo ops and superficially being liked, consulted with, presenting the finished product he practically had zero to do with but that can benefit from his cultural and branding bona fides.

Sure Putin's probably got some shit on him but it seems like thats largely at a stalemate where if he pushes the guy any further Trump might just say fuck it and unleash the coveted systems Ukraine wants and terminally successful sanctions that could actually finish the war in record time and decimate Russkies and even Putin. He could be the newly empowered Dem's own higher controlled Opposition in Name Only President who actually fucks over his own Party for a chance at hitching his boat to the rising Dems and actually get all the cool shit everyone would have thought impossible.

Its gonna be pretty hard for the remaining parasitic DINOs to contain the damage when fucking Trump is already prematurely announcing working with DSA to deliver the goods America actually needs (by doing nothing more than shuttig up the traitors by advertising it and ultimatey just signing it)

Just goes to show how insidious all the paid-for fuckhead AIPC+insiders+centrists were and how cynical they were in telegraphing their fear mongering about gasp a "socialist" [insert left and right wing boogie men which are often diametrically contradictory.

The damage done to the completely fucked Overton window and loss of faith in the electoral system and the despair its caused by hijacking the peoples vote so it didnt matter which party it went to but bipartisanly never went towards policies that could help them, only to the interests of the "donor" class (who, lets be real, are nothing but political bribery and pay to play access gone rampant) is aggregately incalcuable and it needs to be mitigated and all its upholders need to be unelectable after they finish their current terms and neutered before they have even have an iota of a chance to capitalize on the current blue wave their DSA betters largely made happen for the party.

DSA holds the promise of a left Tea Party but the actual better Angels inherent to our "side" that is the counterpart to the Demons comprising the Republicans'/Tea Party wing (which is almost the entire party at this point in the same way the Dems were largely corporate/DINOs prior to independants loosely associated like Bernie and DSA)

While people in Israel have healthcare for all.

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 14 points 16 hours ago

And highly subsidized (not free, but incredibly cheap) higher education.

Imagine that, Americans: free healthcare and no real student debt. We've never had anything close, but we've paid for Israel to have it all along.

They’re pretty good at healthending too

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 hours ago

And we pay for that too
