A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

It cannot be diluted, but it can stop existing.
1000 ml holy water + 999 ml of tap water = 1999 ml of holy water, but
999 ml holy water + 1000 ml of tap water = 0 ml holy water.
So to make all water holy water, we first need more holy water than water, which is hard.
Is there a rate at which regular water is converted into holy water? I feel like we could just pour the 1000ml of regular water into the 999ml of holy water at whatever that rate is, and still end up with 1999ml of holy water in the end. Or is it like adding water to acid where it summons a very irate priest if you try that?
So, first of all, I'd like to point out I've done way too much research with this, I make my daily coffee with holy water for funsies, holy water blessed by TWO popes. I've looked into catholic websites, interviews, read through every relevant bible passage. Trust me when I say, I do not know for sure. Every source that even approaches this little bit of nuance seems to assume a pour is instant. In a way, that makes sense, because we cannot dilute it. So, the reality I've concluded is that we have to do the same. Therefore, flow rate is irrelevant, if I take a whole hour to add a liter of water to 999 ml holy, I ruin the batch.
Instead, the device I've imagined (but not tried to build, as of yet) to continually produce holy water would use essentially a mini 1-liter toilet tank setup with a reeeeaaaallllly slow drip emitter as an input, so that the "flow" isn't continuous, it's discrete droplets being added to the holy tank, and the bobber that toilets have is set to keep like 100 ml as a minimum to this tank. Then we prime it with holy water and every drip is less than the size of the tank, so holy water is constantly growing, and then whatever output I have can only get holy water and can never deplete the tank.
Also you can't pour holy water down the drain, that's a sin, it has to go into the ground directly. Churches have a dedicated holy water drain that isn't connected to actual plumbing and goes straight to the ground. Following the rules for that is actually quite annoying.
It's way simpler than that
Well obviously it can be made, but I'm not ordained, and I wanted to make it via the multiplication method, so that my coffee is blessed by the pope. I drink a lot in a day, its not feasible to restock it at a church.
Just wanted to say I do not understand this at all but do absolutely love it. I've tagged you as "holy" and look forward to seeing you around :)
I appreciate it, I've put wayyy too much effort into this, so it's nice to hear. I have drank more holy water than most people, I'd say, somewhere between several dozen and a hundred liters. I must be very pure at this point, I'd think, so I'm happy with a Holy tag.
WikiHow has got you Fam Unlimited supply! Make as much Holy Water as you want.
I wonder how much better my tea might taste if made with Holy Water. I'll never know I guess because I'm not Catholic. Though Grandma is a recovering Catholic. Hmmmmmm?
I get it, it's easy to confuse me and him, but I'm actually not the pope.
I specifically set out to use his holy water, not anyone else's.
Also, its easier to add 2 parts holy to one part tap to get 3 parts holy than it is to involve salts, since I want my coffee to taste good.
Dammit, this ruins my cool Holy Water comment. Stupid bible ruins everything
