An obsolete document that has been amended repeatedly is now held up as some unchangeable and sacred thing, despite the fact that the dicks who wrote it never intended for it to thus
And' Muricans are lazy. There will be no next time, because someone will just say "it was tried, and it failed" and everyone will just shrug their shoulders, the way they always do
The whole of the US is running on a completely rotten foundation. Their sacred constitution is no more than a fig leaf to hide that the basic rules of this country are not up to the task of providing a stable basis. And their civil religion prevents anyone trying to fix the mess to succeed, because it is akin to blasphemy.
