mobo was a weird buy anyway though, but does make me wonder what the options and prices are like now for am4 systems. Maybe they will start releasing new boards, or rerelease old ones...
You paid more for your motherboard than your CPU? Why?
Multiple reasons at the time, most of which I don't remember, one of them was wanting higher speed usb-c which wasn't available on a lot of other boards, in hindsight it would have been better, and cheaper to get a pci-e to usb-c card. The board also has the error code read out, a thunderbolt add in card connector, WiFi 6E, 4 x m.2s.
There was/is also the potential to replace the cpu with an x3d. Although the 5700x was a very deliberate choice and I am happy with it. I was never planning on moving to am5.
Fair enough. That said: I built an AM5 system at pretty much the exact same time as you did and IIRC, I ended up paying less for a more powerful CPU and newer platform.
Get back to me when you need to replace your ram :P
One of the reasons I went with AM4 was platform maturity, at the time AM5 was new (launched sept 2022).
My prices are in aud btw (if you didn't notice).
Bigger number better is also not how I do things, and it isn't the direction that tech should have moved.
My choices of a 5700x and a 6800 (non xt) were very deliberate due to performance/efficiency. I could have easily gone to a x3d and a higher end graphics card.
I have no regrets about what I chose, aside from I should have just gone with a b series board, and maybe a different case, I wanted a non glass case that could hold at least 3 hdd's, and (at least in Australia) that was more difficult than it should have been, due ot silly people and their silly lights = glass sided cases being the norm. I ended up with a Be Quiet Silent Base 802, which is okay, but could be better, and could be smaller (I should have originally bought 2x 8,10, 02 12Tb hdd's, instead of 3x 6Tb)
