I've been using Sway on Arch (with AMD GPU) for like 2 years, after switching from i3, and everything has been pretty good until it doesn't.

I switched my monitors to one model with high refresh rate and high resolutions (180Hz and 1440p) but Sway doesn't seem to like it... If you have the refresh rate higher than 60Hz, then suddenly artifacts appear everywhere (and no, this isn't my GPU problem, 100% sure) and this specific monitor is an OLED model, and Sway again doesn't seem to like it neither since the black colors randomly "flash", like that, you are looking into a straight dark color and you can see when suddenly the color turns a little brighter in the background, like an old TV.

And here I have two problems;

  1. I can't use HDR (can but it's basically an increase in the brightness and it doesn't look good)

  2. I can't use more than 60Hz, and no, VRR won't fix this, actually, if you enable VRR you monitor is locked to 60Hz anyway.

So basically, to use my monitor at its full strength I should use Plasma, which it's fine but I love Sway and Tilling Window Manager, or find another TWM that uses Wayland, what do you suggest?

And before you tell me something is wrong with the monitor/pc, I work on another PC with this monitor and I'm currently using Plasma in the same exact Arch installation where I have Sway installed with this problems, and none of these problems had appeared in almost 1 hour using the system.

I'm also aware that Hyprland exists, but I used it when I had NVIDIA some years ago and the experience was an completely headache + Current drama (I know this doesn't "affect" directly the product but....) + I don't really like that everything is so "Eye-candy", what I like of Sway is that is like an Vanilla i3.

And I also don't really like the idea of having multiple DEs/TWM installed on the same machine, this is probably some old myth that I read long ago that you shouldn't have installed multiple DEs since the config files may conflict, and for God's sake, I hate that installing Plasma also installs like 300+ packages that I don't have a single idea what they are... So I may just instead of distrohop I would TWM-hop or stay in Plasma for the best experience without enjoying the simplicity of an TWM.

You can do some tiling with plasma.

Firstly, there is built in rudimenteary tiling via Meta + T. It's not automatic, but you can snap windows to zones and tile them. If you want automatic tiling, your best bet is a KDE extension.

Here are some of the popular one:

You can install these via the KDE store, usually, Discover.
