Ah sorry, 'bougie' (sometimes spelled 'boujee' and pronounced "boo-gee") is a common english slang term meaning "associated with the bourgeoisie". Or in my case, it's a slang term that means "I cannot remember how to spell bourgeoisie".
That's super interesting about the candles though - despite the prevalence of online betting right now, the US really doesn't have much of a casual betting culture so that sounds pretty fun from an outsider's perspective! If you don't mind, what country / what's the tradition called? I'd love to hear more!
