I wouldn't be surprised if that effectively happens in some industries, specifically in the arts or sports where there are tons of applicants chasing a dream. There is a reason why people know of the casting couch.

That said, I really don't see that happening in any IT, science, medical, or engineering field anytime soon. Unlike in the arts, I don't see how an industry which needs a certain level of technical competence will find it so widely available that people would pay them for experience.

While this is most definitely a common sense take, in reality "maximize shareholder value" will push companies no choice but to automate these jobs for worse results.

They absolutely will try to automate these jobs, with some of the industries I listed seeing this process continue for generations. I just don't think it will ever get to a point where people will pay to work at a tech company and tech companies will want to use the labor of these people.
