Taken a nice photo of your creation? We highly encourage sharing with our friends over at !foodporn@lemmy.world.

Posts in this community must be food/cooking related. Recipes for dishes you've made and post picture of are encouraged but are not a requirement. Posts of food you are enjoyed or just think like food are welcomed as well.

Posts can optionally be tagged. We would like the use and number of tags to grow organically. Feel free to use a tag that isn't listed if you think it makes sense to do so. We encourage using tags to help organize and make browsing easier, but you don't have to use them if you don't want to.

Grilled "cheese" (lemmy.world)
submitted 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) by FauxPseudo@lemmy.world to c/cooking@lemmy.world

Life is crazy right now. I had to rebuild my cell phone today and my wife is craving comfort food with no nutritional value.

All cooking counts if it stops you from paying $5 to $6 for a single grilled cheese and fries at someplace that actually offers that.

Cost per person, $1.20

Phone surgery was a success. New battery and screen. But this is temporary because this model goes EOL next month.

In my 60 American years, I believe my only experience with "American" cheese has been singles (Kraft or similar). I don't like those at all.

What's the distinction with the stuff in the deli?

It's a softer cheddar basically, still melts very well. I use it to melt uncooperative cheeses

If it's real, it should be colby and jack, not cheddar. That said, you can add sodium citrate to basically any meltable cheese to give it the same quality - as that's how they make it (from coldy and jack) :)

Colby-jack is a different cheese
