The Septum Ring Theory is the social observation and slang that finds a pattern between women who wear septum piercing and a certain set of personality traits like being chronically online and holding exaggerated leftist views.

It's frequently used as an insult in comments of sexist / misandrist women who try to disguise their hate as "wokeness" or social justice.

There's an alternative definition that was later created by people that felt called out by this slang that claims it's the theory that some men dislike women with septum piercing because you need to be over 18 to legally obtain it.

Yeah I can see why the theory in the OP came about if it was used to attack women in this way before.

I don't understand this phrasing, what does exaggerated leftist views mean?

Well, as usual, vagueness is a great shield and a good platform to radicalise people.

Obviously, a collective of people will place the marker for "exaggerated leftist views" on different places. So you will see all kind of markers.

But as usual, the propaganda material is selected, so the misogynist will look for misandrists (or a supercut that create the impression of misandry) with the "social justice warrior" optics (obviously, we are talking about the distorted perception of sjw present in misogynistic circles)

Obviously the views of people (or the distorted version created by a supercut) tend to be quite outrageous, as it should be for "good" propaganda. Then calling these views leftist, makes the propaganda work. As now, unaware people will confirm that the views are leftist, as they assume that is what it is about. when in reality, the seemingly misandrist view is obviously not leftist, as misandry is sexism.

Holding actual leftist views (as opposed to liberal ones), probably.
