I spent 2K on a capable surround to be able to hear my damned tv.
The downmix to stereo is 90% of the problem. They don't normalize the channels, Front channel is always low, rear channels are always WAY too high. mumble mumble mumble, mumble mumble SCREEEECH CRASH BANG BANG mumble mumble
I think the TV vendors do it so you'll buy their soundbar.
Center Channel / Voices + 5, rear channels -2 and you can actually hear your damned movie.
