On one hand I understand showing empathy and highlighting that people might be going through mental issues, abuse. However laziness and lack personal responsibility should always be considered as possible factors as well.

you missed the cultural memo, in 2026 you're considered abusive if you think personal responsibility is a thing. nothing is anyone's personal fault, ever, anymore.
