World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Penny Wong will watch the U.S. crush the ICC while uttering the quietest "don't" as they do. She is a coward and this is heartbreakingly unsurprising.
Just for reference to other countries-
Penny Wong voted against gay marriage multiple times. She is a lesbian and took advantage of our Gay Marriage laws the second they were introduced (long story short- we have Goldman Sachs to thank for those laws, yes really...) but voted against them multiple times.
Spineless doesn't even begin to cover it.
It seems that claim is not really true:
https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/senate/sa/penny_wong/policies/1
Besides which, do you want politicians to vote according bro their constituents wishes or according to their own interests?
That's very specifically only counting after Malcolm Turnbull introduced the vote to parliament and forced both Labor and Liberals hands.
The constituency was in full support of Gay Marriage, Penny ignored it for years since Labor is at their heart, the Catholic party.
LOL.
It's the way I say it is because reasons and any contrary information is a fabrication.
Indeed.
Look at the votes, everything after 2016, she was there and voted Yes, before that she was absent every single vote and her party that was present voted 100% No.
It's well known here that Labor are spineless.
Vote Greens. The party that voted 100% YES in every division.
The greens are so heavily slandered in Aus even mentioning them gets eye rolls. Breaks my heart, they are decent pollies and worth the ranked choice above Labor.
The entire Labor Party are spineless
You know it.
Yep, it’s why I’ve been voting Green and Senators to either block dogshit or pass decent stuff
Unfortunately things overseas dictated our last election and gave Labor a huge majority. It’s shallow though.
Oh fuck off. We got away from bigoted crap in the Liberals. We still need to keep that festering mess out.
A massive backlash against Trump shit is a good thing. Dont try to spin this to some idiotic conclusionm
Yeah nah Labor are piss weak and dogshit, and saying that isn’t endorsing the Coalition.
Only thing more pissweak than a Labor politician is a Labor voter.
In this case the massive backlash gave us a worse government than we could have had. Labors cowards have sold us out. Shove your opinion up your arse.
As a diplomat, how would you like Wong to address this?
Yeah nice try, Penny. I'm not giving you PR advice.
I thought so. No answers just criticism because she didn't show up with a "Free Palestine" shirt.
I wonder how the foreign affairs minister from a liberal, national oor ON government would handle this?
Labor are not your mates, hey. Suggesting that Labor give a fuck about Palestine is repulsive.
That's not what I suggested, nor what I asked.
How would you like our foreign affairs minister to address this with a global super power on whom we are heavily dependent as one of our closest allies ?
You are playing the "Labor are epic legends" game though. Just because ON and LNP are ghouls doesn't make Labor suddenly wonderful and it is not a failure to be publicly critical of an ally. The closest they have come to criticising an ally who is actively committing genocide is officially acknowledging that Palestinians and their rubble exist.
I have et said anything like that, and it's painfully obvious that you're deflecting.
Given your criticism of Wong, I had thought that surely you would have some preferred strategy.
Instead it seems like you don't really have e any idea what you're talking about, other than "labor bad"
By backing it up with the government pulling out of AUKUS and cutting ties with Israel.
The problem is that’s all there is and no spine to back it up with action. Same with gas and gambling companies. No spine.
The country overwhelmingly wants action on it as well. Overwhelmingly.
No problems taking on the disabled though.
That’s what we want Labor to do.
