Positive reinforcement works as well! Gotta give blue states something good to entice fence sitters. For instance, you could annex Minnesota.

Sincerely

A Minnesotan

New York is right here for the taking. Annex Niagra Falls!

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 20 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I would move to NY immediately.

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

MN has better labor protections

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I prefer being further east. And warmer, the last time I was in MN it was in the winter, and something stupid like 15F for the highest temp the entire time (thats about -9.5C for folks who use sensible units). The last time I was in upstate NY in the winter, it at least went above freezing.

The beer is better in MN. But I also can't drink beer anymore (thanks gluten, gfy) so not being forced to watch others enjoy is also a benefit.

I will gladly shovel snow to avoid 100F+ summers

[–] bitchkat@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

I got some news for you. We get both.

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 3 points 6 days ago

I have a seething hatred of being cold, and I've been all over the middle east in the summer (like 120F in the shade), so 100F summers I can do.

inch by inch…

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago

Gross. Niagara Falls NY is a shithole full of chemical toxins.

[–] eurisko@lemmy.ca 17 points 6 days ago

I like the sound of that. Join the upstairs party, let's have a chill night while they argue downstairs.

Wait, please. With all due respect, and if you wouldn't mind:

If alphabetical order is at all a consideration, I think Massachusetts should go first.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 5 points 6 days ago

Ok sounds good. First order of business:

🎵 The spirit of Massachusetts is the spirit now of Canada

the rest of it

The spirit of the last letter being zed...

The spirit of Massachusetts is the spirit now of Canada,

The spirit of the red, white and red! 🎶

Don’t forget Maine will be before you (ง’̀-‘́)ง

[–] paraplu@piefed.social 3 points 6 days ago

Y'all have no respect for the Quebecois. First order of business should be their favorite vacation state, Vermont.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 days ago

ya, but they'll want the good hockey players.

[–] Bustedknuckles@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago

Cascadia stands ready!

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] stoly@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

Extend Cascadia to the Mexican border lol

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 8 points 6 days ago

Sorry, but the whole ship is going down.

Canada save us. We are poor and starving here rn! Send hookers and cocaine immediately!

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 5 points 6 days ago

Open invitations to provincehood should be extended to all states. Michigan specifically should be made aware that "it would be a shame if their nice auto plants exploded."

[–] imvii@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Even the blue states have too many guns and Jesus for my liking.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

A worthy trade. Massachusetts has fewer guns than most and you’re welcome to all of them if you annex us. Boston has had hundreds of years of friendship with Halifax, especially, and we’re all for joining up

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago

Boston is essentially the American version of Halifax.

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Maybe Annex Illinois too while you’re at it.

[–] aarch0x40@piefed.social 3 points 6 days ago

ChatGPT, how can I repatriate as a Minnesotan?!
